ADHD Therapy & Psychotherapy in Ontario
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) can affect far more than attention.
It can influence emotional regulation, executive functioning, organization, motivation, relationships, school, work, and everyday life. Many individuals with ADHD describe feeling overwhelmed by tasks that seem easy for others, becoming easily distracted, struggling to get started, or feeling frustrated by their own inconsistency.
ADHD presents differently from person to person. Some individuals experience primarily inattentive symptoms, while others experience hyperactivity, impulsivity, or a combination of both. Many people also experience anxiety, low self-esteem, perfectionism, or burnout as they navigate the daily challenges associated with ADHD.
Some common challenges associated with ADHD include:
• Difficulty sustaining attention
• Forgetfulness
• Disorganization
• Difficulty starting or completing tasks
• Emotional dysregulation
• Impulsivity
• Restlessness
• Time management difficulties
• Difficulty prioritizing tasks
• Procrastination
• Feeling overwhelmed by everyday responsibilities
• Low self-esteem related to repeated struggles
Living with ADHD can affect school, work, relationships, parenting, and overall well-being.
With the right support, individuals can develop strategies that work with their unique strengths rather than against them. Psychotherapy provides a supportive space to better understand how ADHD affects your daily life while developing practical skills to improve executive functioning, emotional regulation, confidence, and overall quality of life.
Together, we work to:
• Better understand your individual ADHD profile
• Improve emotional regulation
• Develop practical organization strategies
• Strengthen executive functioning skills
• Improve time management
• Reduce self-criticism
• Build confidence and self-acceptance
• Develop sustainable routines
Our approach is always individualized, collaborative, and neurodiversity-affirming.
We draw from evidence-based therapies including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness-based approaches, strengths-based interventions, and practical executive functioning strategies. Treatment is tailored to each individual's unique strengths, goals, and challenges.
For many individuals with ADHD, movement can play an important role in emotional regulation, attention, and learning. In addition to traditional psychotherapy, we offer Movement & Exercise Psychotherapy™ (MEP™), an innovative approach that integrates psychotherapy with purposeful movement and exercise. MEP™ may be particularly beneficial for individuals who find it easier to focus, process emotions, or engage in therapy while moving.
We work with children, teens, and adults with ADHD, including individuals who have recently received a diagnosis as well as those who have been managing ADHD for many years. Treatment is individualized and may also include parent support and coaching when appropriate.
Virtual psychotherapy is available throughout Ontario, providing flexible access to ADHD therapy from the comfort of your home. In-person Movement & Exercise Psychotherapy™ sessions are also available in Orangeville, Ontario.
Living with ADHD can present unique challenges, but it can also come with many strengths.
