Depression Therapy & Psychotherapy in Ontario
Living with depression can feel isolating, overwhelming, and exhausting.
You may feel like you're simply going through the motions each day, struggling to find motivation, enjoyment, or hope. Even tasks that once felt simple can become difficult, leaving you feeling frustrated, disconnected, or unlike yourself.
Depression affects everyone differently. For some people it feels like persistent sadness, while others experience numbness, irritability, exhaustion, or a loss of interest in activities they once enjoyed. If these feelings have persisted for more than a couple of weeks or are beginning to interfere with your daily life, psychotherapy can help.
Depression can develop for many different reasons, including stressful life events, trauma, burnout, chronic illness, relationship difficulties, workplace stress, grief, or biological factors. Regardless of the cause, you do not have to navigate it alone.
Some common symptoms of depression include:
• Persistent sadness or low mood
• Loss of interest or enjoyment in activities
• Fatigue or low energy
• Difficulty concentrating
• Feelings of guilt or worthlessness
• Changes in appetite
• Changes in sleep
• Irritability
• Withdrawing from friends or family
• Feeling hopeless about the future
• Difficulty making decisions
• Reduced motivation
Everyone experiences depression differently, and symptoms can range from mild to severe.
Psychotherapy provides a safe, supportive, and collaborative space to better understand your experiences while developing practical strategies to improve mood, increase motivation, and reconnect with the things that are important to you.
Together, we will work to:
• Better understand the factors contributing to your depression
• Identify unhelpful patterns of thinking
• Develop practical coping strategies
• Improve emotional regulation
• Increase engagement in meaningful activities
• Build resilience and self-compassion
• Strengthen healthy routines
• Work toward reconnecting with your values and goals
Treatment is individualized to your unique experiences and focuses not only on reducing symptoms but also on improving your overall quality of life.
Our approach to treating depression is collaborative, compassionate, and evidence-based. I draw from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), mindfulness-based interventions, behavioural activation, and humanistic approaches. Together we will identify practical strategies that fit your goals while exploring the underlying factors contributing to your depression.
For some individuals, traditional psychotherapy is the most appropriate approach. For others, Movement & Exercise Psychotherapy™ (MEP™) may provide an alternative way to engage in therapy.
Movement & Exercise Psychotherapy™ combines psychotherapy with purposeful movement and exercise, which may help improve mood, increase motivation, support emotional regulation, and encourage gradual re-engagement in meaningful activities.
This approach may be particularly beneficial for individuals who feel more comfortable moving than sitting, including some neurodivergent individuals, athletes, first responders, and those recovering from injury or burnout.
Depression affects individuals of all ages. We provide psychotherapy for children, teens, and adults experiencing depression and related concerns. Whether symptoms are affecting school, work, relationships, parenting, athletic performance, or everyday functioning, treatment is tailored to each individual's developmental stage, strengths, and goals.
Virtual psychotherapy allows you to access support from the comfort of your home or another private location anywhere in Ontario. Online therapy can be an effective option for individuals with busy schedules, transportation challenges, health concerns, or those who simply prefer meeting virtually. In-person MEP™ sessions are available in Orangeville, Ontario.
