Burnout Therapy & Psychotherapy in Ontario

Burnout can leave you feeling physically, mentally, and emotionally exhausted.

You may find yourself struggling to get through the workday, feeling detached from the things you once enjoyed, or questioning your ability to continue meeting the demands placed upon you. Over time, burnout can begin affecting your work performance, relationships, physical health, and overall quality of life.

Burnout often develops gradually through ongoing exposure to chronic stress. It may result from workplace demands, caregiving responsibilities, parenting, academic pressures, first responder work, healthcare professions, compassion fatigue, or trying to balance multiple responsibilities over an extended period.

Some common signs of burnout include:

• Emotional exhaustion

• Feeling overwhelmed

• Reduced motivation

• Difficulty concentrating

• Increased irritability

• Feeling detached or emotionally numb

• Loss of enjoyment in work or daily activities

• Sleep difficulties

• Physical fatigue

• Increased anxiety

• Low mood

• Difficulty maintaining work-life balance

Burnout can sometimes look similar to anxiety or depression, and many individuals experience overlapping symptoms.

Understanding what is contributing to your distress is an important first step toward recovery.

Psychotherapy provides a supportive and collaborative space to better understand the factors contributing to burnout while developing practical strategies to restore balance, improve emotional well-being, and reconnect with the aspects of life that matter most.

Together, we work to:

• Identify sources of chronic stress

• Improve emotional regulation

• Develop healthy coping strategies

• Establish realistic boundaries

• Reduce perfectionism and self-criticism

• Strengthen resilience

• Improve work-life balance

• Reconnect with personal values and meaningful activities

• Prevent future burnout

Our approach is individualized, compassionate, and evidence-based.

We draw from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), mindfulness-based approaches, stress management strategies, and strengths-based interventions. Treatment is tailored to each client's unique experiences, goals, and circumstances. For some individuals, traditional psychotherapy is the most appropriate approach. Others may benefit from Movement & Exercise Psychotherapy™ (MEP™), which integrates psychotherapy with purposeful movement and exercise. MEP™ may help support stress reduction, emotional regulation, improved mood, and the gradual rebuilding of healthy routines while working toward recovery from burnout.

We work with teens and adults experiencing burnout, including professionals, healthcare workers, first responders, caregivers, parents, students, and individuals managing ongoing life stress. Treatment is always individualized and adapted to each person's unique circumstances and goals. Virtual psychotherapy is available throughout Ontario, making it easy to access support from the comfort of your home or another private location. In-person Movement & Exercise Psychotherapy™ (MEP™) sessions are also available in Orangeville, Ontario.
